Psalm 61

The Path To Eternity

Hear my crying, O God.  Hear my prayer.

Father, although my hair is now streaked with white, I am still your child.  Stoop down from your vastness, lower yourself to my humble state, and listen to my whisper.

From the ends of the Earth will I call on you when my heart is in heaviness.

I cannot, will not stop calling out to you for what lays on my heart threatens to crush me.

O set me up upon the rock that is higher than me, for you have been my hope and a strong tower for me against my enemy.

Reach down your hand and lift me out of this pit of sighs.  You protect me from everything except grief.

I will dwell in your house forever, and my trust will be tucked in the darkness under your wings.

I am in your shelter.  But my bones are weary.  My blood runs slower every day.  My head is fatigued, over-used.  The encounters I have met in this life have shredded my soul.

For you, O Lord, know my desires.  My divine heritage has been built on the fear of others.

I desire restoration.  I desire an end to the piercings.  I cannot regain my strength while surrounded by archers constantly preparing their bows.

You will give The King so long a life that no end will come to them.

The horizon remains an eternity away.  Perhaps now is the time that the journey to reach it begins.

He will dwell before God forever.  Prepare your loving mercy and faithfulness, that they may preserve him.

The weight of this ultimate mantel that you are preparing to bestow is great.

So will I always sing praises to your name, that I may daily perform my vows.

Life continually clutches my breath and I must remind myself to breath out again.  And to continue on my way, recall the significance of the steps that lay before me.
