The Vietnam Veteran’s Prayer

Dear God,

I am praying to you now for {name}, as I have in the past.

Please make his nightmares go away!  Stop the screams of dying people within his mind.  Make {name} whole again in body and in soul. Make his pain stop and the scars disappear.

Forgive him, Lord, for all the people he was involved with killing—and for all the people that he wanted to kill.  Please eliminate the bitterness from within his heart.

Allow {name} to become a productive member of society again.  Allow him to know and to freely accept the love of his family and friends.

When {name} becomes down and out—with no direction in which to go—please show him the way. When the evening hours approach, please allow him the grace of a peaceful night’s sleep. When the memories of his deceased “brothers and sisters” enter his mind, please ease the heartache and remind him that they did not die in vain.

Allow {name} to freely shed his tears and stand proudly as a Vietnam Veteran, and know that there are people all around him that truly care.

Make {name} unashamed to ask for help when he needs it and to offer his help to others when they are in need.

Amen.
